Se tituló de Tecnólogo Médico en 1974 en la Universidad de Chile
en la cual ha trabajado desde su graduación.  Como Profesor del Instituto de
Nutrición y Tecnología de los Alimentos (INTA) de la Universidad de Chile
se ha dedicado tanto a la docencia como a la investigación científica
estudiando el rol de los micronutrientes en la salud humana.  El Sr Pizarro
comenzó su carrera académica en 1978 como Instructor.  En el año 1980
ganó una beca de post-grado en el Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones
Científica (IVIC) para obtener el Diploma Aplicación de Radionucleidos en
Investigación Científica. En 1990 concurrió como becado al Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) en Atlanta USA donde trabajó en el
área de de epidemiología de las anemias nutricionales.  En 1992 alcanzó la
jerarquía de Profesor Asistente y en 1998 la de Profesor Asociado.  Ha sido
invitado a participar en el First Leadership Workshop for Latin-American
Young Leaders in Nutrition e Antigua, Guatemala (1997).  También en 1998 fue
nombrado Jefe de la Unidad de Estadística y Computación de INTA desde donde
promovió las nuevas tecnologías y creo la página web de INTA
(www.inta.cl).  Ha sido Consultor de la International Atomic Energy Agency en
Perú promoviendo el uso de técnicas nucleares para medir la
biodisponibilidad de hierro (1995 a 1997) y después en Cuba donde ha
participado como consultor en el uso de isótopos para evaluar programas de
intervención nutricional (2002 a 2005). Ha sido par revisor del Grupo de
Estudios de Proyectos en  Medicina (G2 y G3) del Fondo Nacional de
Investigación Científica y Tecnológica (FONDECYT) de Chile. En Septiembre
del 2008 es ascendido a Profesor Titular de la Universidad de Chile.
Actualmente es Coordinador del Programa de Magister en Nutrición y Alimentos
  del INTA y  tutor de alumnos tesistas de post grado.  Además, ha
participado  en innumerables eventos nacionales e internacionales donde ha
presentado cursos y resultados de trabajos de investigación principalmente
financiados por proyectos Fondecyt y ha publicado más de 100 artículos en
revistas internacionales.
