Profesor Titular de la Universidad de Chile. Bioquímico con un doctorado en Ciencias con mención en Biología de la Universidad de Chile, con una estadía de postdoctorado en el Skeletal Research Center, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, USA, en el laboratorio del Dr. Arnold Caplan. Su interés en investigación ha estado centrado en determinar el rol que juegan las células progenitoras mesenquimáticas (MSCs) en la génesis de la osteoporosis postmenopáusica. Para esto, estudia las características celulares y moleculares de las MSCs presentes en la médula ósea humana, determinando los mecanismos involucrados en la regulación de las vías de diferenciación osteogénica y adipogénica y como alteraciones en estos procesos pueden jugar un rol en la patogénesis de la osteoporosis postmenopáusica. Tiene alrededor de 40 publicaciones en revistas de circulación internacional, con un índice h de 13 y un número de citaciones superior a las 1.300.
