Lee Meisel, Ph.D. en Microbiología y Genética Molecular de “Rutgers University” y “Universidad de Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey” es Profesor Asociado del INTA desde Julio de 2012.  Con más de 20 años de experiencia de investigación en biotecnología y biología molecular de plantas, y más de 15 años de experiencia como académica en universidades chilenas, Dr. Lee Meisel ha utilizado sus conocimientos científicos para estudiar no solamente la planta modelo Arabidopsis, pero también especies con importancia económica para Chile como duraznos, nectarines, frutilas y cerezas.  Ella fue profesor guía de tesis postgrado y pregrado (5 doctorado, 4 magister y 11 títulos profesionales). Su investigación ha sido publicada en revistas de alto impacto como Nature, Nature Genetics, PNAS y PLOS One, entre otros y ha sido citado más de 1,000 veces, con una índice-h de 15.   Dra. Lee Meisel ha participado en consorcios internacionales para secuenciar los genomas de frutilla y durazno. Sus líneas de investigación actuales incluyen: 1) genómica comparativa entre frutales y plantas modelos para mejorar la calidad y valor nutricional de frutas; 2) analices moleculares de las vías de respuestas a fitohormonas durante el desarrollo de frutas de Rosaceae; y 3) El desarrollo de marcadores moleculares asociado con caracteres, loci y/o genes de interés para programas de mejoramiento genético asistido.
