Bioquímico de la Universidad de Concepción, Doctor en Nutrición y Alimentos de la Universidad de Chile. Su línea de investigación se relaciona con el estudio del rol de la microbiota intestinal usando el pez cebra (Danio rerio) como modelo de estudio, con el fin de identificar nuevos microorganismos probióticos. Particularmente, se ha enfocado en evaluar el rol de las levaduras de la microbiota de peces en la protección contra patógenos y estimulación de la maduración intestinal, así como los mecanismos implicados. Además, explora la capacidad anti-inflamatoria de bacterias de la microbiota intestinal humana, en un modelo de inflamación intestinal en pez cebra. En el área de inocuidad alimentaria, sus intereses se relacionan con el desarrollo de métodos moleculares rápidos para la detección de microorganismos patógenos alimentarios y uso de microorganismos en la elaboración de alimentos fermentados.
