Médico Veterinario de la Universidad de Chile, Magíster en Nutrición y Alimentos del INTA (U de Chile) y Doctorada de la Universidad de Maryland. Realizo su entrenamiento postdoctoral en el Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) de la FDA de los Estados Unidos. Su área de interés es la inocuidad alimentaria, con énfasis en la microbiología tradicional y molecular de patógenos y en la genómica aplicada a estos microorganismos. La Profesora Toro ha colaborado en la publicación de mas de 10 manuscritos científicos en revistas internacionales y mantiene colaboraciones activas con la FDA y U of Maryland.
